Safety Notices

1.1Warnings

!
  • Laser rangefinder safety. The device has a built-in laser rangefinder module. Never aim the laser into human or animal eyes, and do not look into the laser exit window.
  • Heat source limits. Do not point the device at the sun, lasers, welding arcs or other extreme heat sources for extended periods — the detector can be damaged. The "burn protection" feature reduces but does not eliminate the risk.
  • Shooting safety. When used with firearms, follow local laws and range safety rules. During zeroing and ballistic calibration always keep the muzzle pointed in a safe direction; fire only after confirming the target area is safe.
  • Electrical safety. Use only the supplied or spec-compliant batteries and chargers. Recharge in time when the battery is low; remove the battery for long-term storage.

1.2Cautions

!
  • The device is a precision optoelectronic product — do not drop, strike or disassemble it.
  • A brief ghosting on the display after power-on in cold environments is normal.
  • Lens contamination degrades image quality — clean with lens cloth/paper only; organic solvents are prohibited.
  • Firmware updates or factory reset erase user configuration — record the zeroing data you want to keep beforehand.
02

Product Overview

NVP series thermal imaging riflescopes are day-and-night sighting devices combining thermal observation, laser rangefinding and ballistic computation, intended for hunting, law enforcement and target observation. The device forms images from infrared radiation in total darkness, smoke, rain or fog; the built-in laser rangefinder acquires target distance and, together with ballistic parameters, computes the point of impact in real time to support precise shooting.

  • Electronic zoom, picture-in-picture local magnification, four scene image modes
  • Built-in laser rangefinder with single/continuous modes; LRF cursor position calibratable
  • 20 zeroing profiles (A–T) for quick switching between rifle/ammunition combinations
  • Ballistic functions: CALC mode computes the point of impact in real time; CALIBRATION mode uses shot-table data
  • Selectable reticle type and color; electronic reticle offset adjustment
  • Hotspot tracking automatically marks high-temperature targets
  • Electronic compass and attitude sensors with automatic slope/cant compensation
  • Photo, video recording and recoil-activated pre-record video

08

Main Menu Functions

Long-press the encoder on the observation screen to open the main menu. Items in menu order:

8.1Brightness

Adjusts thermal image brightness, 1–5, default 3. Affects the sensor image channel, not the OLED backlight.

8.2Contrast

Adjusts image contrast, 1–5, default 3. Higher values increase target-to-background differentiation.

8.3Display Brightness

Adjusts the OLED display backlight, 1–10, default 5. Affects display brightness only, not imaging parameters.

8.4Picture-in-Picture (PIP)

When on, a local magnified window appears at the top of the screen, referenced to the reticle/frame center, with independent zoom. Useful for aim verification. Off restores the full view.

Caution

Reticle coordinate range is limited so its center is never hidden by the PIP window — by design.

8.5Front Sight (Clip-on)

Clip-on working mode: the device acts as a thermal attachment in front of a day scope — the image area shrinks to match the front scope's field of view. In clip-on settings, adjust magnification and X / Y coordinates to align the thermal image with the host reticle.

Caution

Clip-on is available on 3-series (384 platform) models only; the menu is hidden on other models.

8.6Sharpness

Adjusts image sharpness, 1–5, default 3.

8.7Scene Mode

Choose an image enhancement strategy for the environment:

  • Plain: general observation in open terrain;
  • Jungle Mode: dense vegetation with small temperature differences;
  • Bird: small high-temperature targets;
  • Stone: cold, low-contrast scenes.

8.8Zeroing Profile

Quickly switch the zeroing profile — letters A–T, 20 total. Each stores independently: zero range, zeroing curve points (distance+X/Y), reticle type, reticle color and shot-table calibration. Create profiles for different rifles, ammunition or shooters.

8.9Freeze

Freeze/unfreeze the live image. A frozen frame stays still, handy for inspecting the target or zeroing without changing framing.

8.10Zeroing

Opens the zeroing submenu — see Chapter 9.

8.11Ballistic Calculator

Switch the ballistic working mode:

  • OFF: computation disabled, reticle only;
  • CALC: computes the point of impact from parameters in real time;
  • CALIBRATION: shows impact points from the shot table (see Chapter 10).

8.12Rangefinder

Set the laser rangefinder mode:

  • Single: each short LRF press measures once and shows the distance;
  • Continuous: readings refresh in real time; long-press LRF to exit.

Measured distances are also fed to the ballistic solver.

8.13Zoom

Adjusts electronic zoom (same as rotating the encoder), 1.0×–8.0×, step 1.0×.

8.14Hotspot Tracking

Automatically detects and marks hot areas in the frame to find heat sources quickly.

8.15Pre-record Video

When on, the device continuously buffers the image; on recoil (shot) detection it auto-saves a clip spanning the moments before and after the shot — "Recoil video enabled" is shown.

8.16Wi-Fi

Wi-Fi on/off. When on, the Thermal Kit app (Chapter 12) connects to the device hotspot for live video, media browsing and settings.

8.17Function Settings

Opens the function-settings submenu:

Zeroing

Zeroing maps the reticle to the rifle's actual point of impact. Each profile stores its own set of zeroing data — switch profiles when changing rifles or ammunition.

9.1Zeroing Submenu

Main menu → Zeroing opens the zeroing screen with a cyclic submenu:

#Menu itemDescription
1Ballistic SettingsBallistic parameters/calibration panel (Chapter 10)
2ProfileSelect the profile A–T for this session
3DistanceSet the zeroing distance, 10–500 m (shown in m/yd per unit)
4Reticle TypeSelect the reticle pattern
5Reticle ColorReticle color: auto-invert / black / white / red / green / blue / yellow
6Zeroing ZoomFrame zoom for zeroing: 1.0×/2.0×/4.0×/8.0×
7FreezeFreezes the frame to move the reticle onto the POI
8Reticle CoordinatesAdjust reticle X/Y coordinates

9.2Zeroing Procedure

  1. Select profile. Open "Profile" and rotate the encoder to pick one (A–T).
  2. Set distance. In "Distance", enter the actual shooting distance (10–500 m; rotate = 1 m/step, hold+rotate = 5 m/step). This doubles as the "zero range" in ballistics.
  3. Test fire. Following safety rules, fire a group (3 shots recommended) at the set distance and find the mean point of impact.
  4. Freeze (optional). Freeze the frame so it stays still while moving the reticle.
  5. Move the reticle. In "Reticle Coordinates": short-press toggles X / Y, rotate to adjust (hold+rotate = coarse). Move the reticle center onto the actual point of impact.
  6. Save & exit. Long-press to save and quit. Confirm with another shot; repeat step 5 if needed.

9.3Zeroing Notes

  • Reticle X/Y travel is limited to the central area (about 3/4 of the detector frame); the reticle stops at the boundary — normal.
  • Zeroing zoom allows finer coordinate adjustment.
  • Keep "Zero Range" in ballistic settings consistent with the zeroing distance; changing the zeroing distance updates it automatically.
  • Zeroing data persists across power cycles, per profile.
10

Ballistics

10.1Function Overview

Ballistic functions have three levels — do not confuse them:

LevelEntryPurpose
Basic zeroingMenu → ZeroingClassic zero: binds the reticle to a single distance
CALCMenu → Ballistic CalculatorComputes POI from formulas at any measured range
CALIBRATIONWith mode = CALIBRATION: Zeroing → Ballistic SettingsBuilds a "range–impact" table from live fire

Both CALC and CALIBRATION rely on the laser rangefinder: the measured distance is automatically used as the current target range.

10.2Ballistic Settings

Menu → Zeroing → Ballistic Settings opens the parameter panel. Parameters are stored in Profile groups — 5 total (A–E), for different ammunition/rifles.

All panel parameters (rotate = focus, short press = edit, rotate = change, short press = save):

Note

Values are stored per group; zero range and active group sync with zeroing data.

10.3Using CALC Mode

  1. Zero first. Complete basic zeroing for the profile per Chapter 9.
  2. Set parameters. In Ballistic Settings pick a group (A–E) and enter muzzle velocity, BC, drag model, sight height, zero range and bullet data accurately; enable atmosphere/wind/spin-drift corrections as needed.
  3. Enable ballistics. Menu → Ballistic Calculator → CALC.
  4. Range the target. The result feeds the solver automatically.
  5. Read the impact. The screen shows in real time:
    • the X-marker position below the reticle;
    • the info bar "bullet drop xx cm / wind drift ±x cm";
    • the dot column for lateral drift;
    • if the computed point leaves the field of view, "impact off screen" appears — aim with the reticle center using the info-bar values, or check zero range and parameters.
  6. Engage. Aim with the impact marker (not the reticle center); with reticle-style display, aim by the computed reticle position.

Slope & Cant

With compensations on, the device solves using live attitude angles: elevation (up/down slope) and cant (rifle roll) both shift the impact. Keeping the same hold as during calibration improves accuracy.

10.4CALIBRATION Mode (Shot Table)

Calibration uses no formulas: measured impact offsets at real distances are entered point by point, and during firing the table is looked up by measured range. Suited to ammunition lacking precise data or outside formula coverage.

Table structure: one table per profile; range 10–150 m; step 5 or 10 m; up to 29 points. Values are stored as offsets from the current zero — re-zeroing shifts the table with the reticle and it stays valid.

Entry: select "Calibration" in Ballistic Calculator, then Zeroing → Ballistic Settings — the calibration panel:

Panel itemDescription
ProfileZeroing profile to calibrate (A–T); tables are independent
ZoomFrame zoom for calibration
FreezeFreezes the frame for aligning the POI
Distance StepTable step: 5 m / 10 m
DistanceCurrent calibration point (10–150 m, per step)
Impact colorImpact marker color
Reticle coordinatesVertical impact offset at this point (relative to zero)
Coordinate ResetClears the calibration value of the current point

Calibration steps:

  1. Complete basic zeroing of the profile at the zero range (short distance recommended, e.g. 50 or 100 m).
  2. Set Ballistic Calculator = CALIBRATION, then Zeroing → Ballistic Settings → calibration panel.
  3. Set the distance step (5 m is denser, 10 m is faster).
  4. Fire a group at a real distance (e.g. 100 m) and find the mean point of impact.
  5. Select that distance in "Distance", move the marker ("Reticle Coordinates") onto the actual POI, and save.
  6. Repeat per distance to cover your working range.
  7. After exiting (long press) the table takes effect: ranging shows the POI of the nearest calibrated point. Uncalibrated distances show no marker.
Note

The calibration panel is auto-placed on the half of the screen opposite the aim point so it does not block the view. Calibrate from near to far, prioritizing common engagement distances.

10.5Ballistic Display Elements

ElementMeaning
X-markerComputed/calibrated point of impact
Drift dotsLateral offset (wind + spin drift)
"Bullet drop xx cm"Impact drop relative to zero range
"Wind drift ±x cm"Lateral impact offset, + right / − left
"Impact off screen"Computed point outside the FOV — estimate by values or check parameters
Dynamic reticleWith dynamic types (e.g. MIL/PSO), the reticle scales with zoom and computation

10.6Ballistic Notes

  • Zero before ballistics. All ballistic output builds on the current profile's zeroing data — poor zero means poor impact.
  • Honest parameters. Accuracy depends on inputs (velocity, BC, sight height) matching the real ammunition; measure actual velocity when possible.
  • CALC vs CALIBRATION. Only one mode is active at a time.
  • Range source. The marker uses the latest measurement; none without ranging.
  • Units. Changing m/yd converts zeroing and ballistic distances automatically.
  • Disclaimer. Ballistic computation is an aid, not a guarantee. Verify by live fire when changing ammunition, after large temperature swings, or after switching profiles.
